Gas Train Engineering
Gas Train Components: What Each Component Does
An industrial gas train is a coordinated fuel-supply and safety system. Understanding its components makes inspection and fault diagnosis easier.
Isolation valves
Isolation valves allow sections of the gas installation to be safely isolated for inspection, maintenance or emergency procedures.
Filters and strainers
These components help prevent contaminants from reaching downstream equipment. A restricted filter can contribute to pressure problems and burner instability.
Pressure regulation
Regulators control gas pressure to the level required by downstream equipment. Correct selection, installation and adjustment are important for stable burner operation.
Pressure switches
Low- and high-pressure switches can form part of the burner safety chain. They monitor pressure conditions and can prevent or interrupt operation when a configured limit is reached.
Safety shut-off valves
Safety shut-off valves control fuel flow as part of the burner safety system. Their operation and suitability must be assessed as part of the complete installation.
Valve proving and control equipment
Some systems include valve proving or other burner-management functions to verify that the fuel train is in an acceptable condition before firing.
Why gas-train maintenance matters
A gas train should be treated as part of the complete combustion system rather than as a collection of unrelated valves. Inspection should consider the burner, controls, pressures, safety interlocks and operating sequence together.
